the white space

2001 – 2003
Curated by Yoshiko Chuma and Mary Nunan

The White Space was an initiative by Yoshiko Chuma (who was Artistic Director of Daghdha Dance Company at that time) and Mary Nunan (Founder and Former Artistic Director of Daghdha Dance Company and Course Director of the MA Contemporary Dance Performance at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick).

The White Space comprised a series of  curated events to which a number iconic  contemporary/post-modern dance artists were invited to Limerick to hold workshops, seminars and performances. The guest artists included: Steve Paxton, Lisa Nelson, Yvonne Rainer. This was the first time that these artists had come to Ireland. Yvonne Rainer taught ‘Trio A’ to all the participants as part of her contribution to The White Space.

Participants included dancers and choreographers from Daghdha Dance Company and the MA Contemporary Dance students. It also included a significant number professional dance artists and scholars living and working in Ireland  (and beyond) who responded to an open invitation to attend the whole series.

The White Space was funded by Daghdha Dance Company and the MA Contemporary Dance Performance.
